Homemade Tomato Sauce

We like to brew up our own tomato sauce so we can make sure it’s free from additives and colourings and contains as little sugar as possible. In summer and autumn we use fresh tomatoes but in winter canned tomatoes and plums work just as well.

Ingredients

3 x 400g cans crushed tomatoes

1 x 800g can plums, destoned and coarsely crushed

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

1 tsp fine black pepper

Method

STEP 1

Combine all ingredients in a large pot and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Purée or strain.

STORAGE

Store in a sterilised jar in the fridge for up to six weeks.
